Wind bends the grass. Is the grass happy to be pushed by an external force? Is one boy of the three happy to be pushed by the others? The three are bound together in this moment of co-presence. A reality that becomes ever more porous as the film evolves, inviting conceptual exit options.
Objective description
Wind moves through the grass that has overgrown rows of wooden benches. In a wider shot, three adolescent youths are engaged in a childish mocking game. It intensifies while the film itself suggests ways of not being fully present. A visual effect evokes mental absence, a dream state, or an elusive strategy to escape the escalation of conflict.
Plausible association
This work insinuates group psychology, peer pressure, nudging, bullying, and mobbing rhetorics of physical behaviour. Micro-aggressive gestures begin as colloquial, turn harsh, and result in an elusive presence. The VFX may be read as a symbol of a mental state of resistance through mental disentanglement. Another reading may see a mental recall of past events that follow a recurring pattern. The film may suit contexts dealing with issues of nonverbal conflict, masculine performance, and unexpected strategies to avoid physical extremes.
Artistic intention
This film offers a visual argument for layered conceptions of experience and anticipation.
